Boy, have times changed. Through my 8 year career, I’ve seen the world of web completely evolve. It’s hard to believe there was a time without computers and the internet. The most recent big change in wed development has been the growth of mobile, which has completely exploded. As a web developer I spend most of my time making websites function perfectly and look great on smaller devices.
This year, the KEENers at KEEN will be playing games for Extra Life in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital. The event takes place on Saturday, November 5th and we will be streaming live footage for the full 24 hour marathon.
Nothing is more fun for us than a brand new web project, and if your website is over a few years old, chances are, it could use a refresh. Whether you’re just having it updated to look a bit more modern or you’re going in for a full overhaul, there are a few things your web team will need to know before getting started on a new website.
My last post dealt with explaining how simple passwords work. So I thought I’d continue on the topic of online security and cryptography.
Have you ever had that time when someone told you to use a better password using random letters and numbers and X amount characters long? Of course you have! We all have. This is something you will NEVER remember, annoying and very true. But there is some merit to this. So I thought I’d explain how most (not all) hackers get a hold of your password and why a strong password works.
Throughout my years of programming, there have been some quirky things I’ve noticed that we web developers do that is sometimes a little different than everyone else at the office. We’ve also seen our share of “complaints” about some of the things we do. Programmers can be a strange bunch. Here’s a few of the more obvious quirks, explained!
I’ve always been fascinated by building things and how you can take a simple block and combine it with others to create some really cool stuff. Lately, I’ve been constantly reminded of this by my 4 year old nephew. I would watch him take various blocks and turn it into a robot, then a bridge for his cars to drive over, and then add in the wittiness of my sister and you get “Bob Bot”.
So you want to build a website but you have no idea where to start? It can be a scary process if it’s your first time but the whole process is comparable to building a house. The best thing is that there is no mortgage attached to the website.
Sports. It is one of the few things I can say I truly love with great passion. So you can imagine when the Olympics roll around, I am one very happy person. What more can I ask for, when I can watch two weeks of the greatest athletes in the world competing at the highest level of competition.
When Apple introduced the iPad to the consumer market, I was one of the few that could not get on board. In my eyes it was an oversized smartphone with a bigger screen (you know its secretly true). In fact, I even went over the first generation iPad specifications and compared it to the specifications of the iPhone at the time only to confirm to my friend that that it was true. Then comes Monday (actually it was Wednesday when I watched it) when Microsoft introduced their tablet, Surface.
