KEENers Self-Care

July 24th is International Self-Care Day and us KEENers wanted to share our favourite self-care activities and tips with you!

When things get busy, overwhelming or just generally hard to manage, it’s important to take time for yourself. Self-care can be any activity that you enjoy doing that takes care of your mental or physical health. Self-care activities can be as simple as going for a walk outside, or more complex like getting a massage at your favourite spa! 

Kari – Account Strategist

Getting out in nature and going for massages. If I could, I would visit the Nordic Spa in Kananaskis much more regularly because that experience was divine! 

I also enjoy going to the gym, meditation, reading, coffee and/or tasty meals and good conversations with friends. Also, music! Listening to it, singing or dancing. Self-care for me is anything that brings out a playful side, laughing does wonders for my soul. 

Arden – Graphic Designer 

I like to visit Modern Gravity in Edmonton for self-care. It is a floatation therapy and sensory deprivation studio. I like floating because it’s like a slice of tranquility in the city. No cell phone, no TV, no loud music. No distractions. Period. We need more moments to ourselves in the busy world that we live in.

Kris – Web Director 

I like to workout, mostly to relieve stress and anxiety. I find it’s a time to think and de-stress from a busy day. It’s a time to focus on yourself. Also video games– in what other activities do you get to be part of the story? 

Alexa – Marketing Coordinator 

For self-care, I like to take naps. I find it so calming to just be able to curl up under all the blankets and take a brain break, even just for half an hour. I also like to go rock climbing with good friends! Being able to push yourself and the limits of your body is so inspiring. 

Bryan – Web Developer 

I enjoy going outside in the sun once in a while…it’s good to take a break from the screen. I also like having a nice meal with everyone!

Anuska – Account Coordinator 

For self-care, I like to cook–there is something so calming about playing with ingredients and whipping up something delicious. I also find that music is a great stress buster–whether it’s listening to music or attending live music events! 

Journaling is another cathartic way to de-stress. It’s nice to just give a shape to your thoughts with ink and paper. Working out is also a great way to relieve stress! I love lifting and just zoning in with some great tunes. 

Bre – Graphic Designer 

I like to go for walks, watch movies or just live my best life chilling on my deck in the summer, especially in the mornings! Also when I actually go and do it, getting my hair done. There’s something about fresh locks that makes you feel great!

Vanessa – Digital Strategist 

Boxing at Champs is a great way to relieve stress for me! I also like working out at home or catching up with friends over food and wine.

Nathan – Visual Production Manager/Photographer 

I have a standing Thursday night “Wings Night” that’s been going on for 12 years. Also working out or taking a bike ride with mood appropriate music.

Amy – Accounts & Marketing Director 

I love to hang out with loved ones and find a good movie, games night or simple visit over food and drinks helps to feed my soul. I have also learned that while I love to be social, it is super important to take YOU time. I like to cook, read and get my craft on – recently taking pottery classes and loving it!

Self-care activities don’t have to be big or time-consuming things! They can just be simple activities that make you happy. At KEEN, we know how busy and stressful life can get. We hope our self-care tips can help when things get to be a little too much!
