A book is a dream you hold in your hands – Neil Gaiman
Here at KEEN, amongst all the time spent creating marketing wonders for our clients, we also manage to find some time for the simple pleasures in life, such as reading.
As we make our way into the winter months, the opportunities to curl up with a good book and some tea become abundant. So, here are some KEEN faves to keep you busy this winter.
Jenn | Senior Graphic Designer
Genre of choice: Just about anything!
Harry Potter series has a place in my heart, as does Catcher in the Rye I suppose!
I’ve also been really drawn to memoirs as of late: “The Measure of My Powers” by Jackie Kai Ellis, “Educated” by Tara Westover, and “The Magnolia Story” by Chip and Joanna Gaines. I really enjoy reading how people overcome all obstacles to achieve their dreams.
Christyne | Account Coordinator
Genre of choice: Sci-Fi
I really enjoyed reading An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. It’s the first book in the series that I’m reading and it sets you up for quite the journey. It’s based on the Roman Empire and includes power struggles, romance, supernatural powers, etc.! What more could you ask for?
Danny | Video Producer
Genre of choice: Non-Fiction
Dune and Dune Messiah. It’s one of the most unique sci-fi stories I’ve read. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been properly adapted into a movie (yet).
Nic | Art Director
Genre of choice: Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Young Adult Coming-Of-Age
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It is a gloomy and breathtaking mystery and sweeping romance, all centred around the mystical power of books. What more could you want?
Nicole | Creative Director
Genre of Choice: Fantasy
I have so many, but I’ll always love and keep coming back to the Harry Potter Series
Vanessa | Digital Strategist
Genre of choice: No preference usually, but lately Business Related
I don’t necessarily have a favourite book but I’m currently enjoying This I Know: Marketing Lessons from Under the Influence by Terry O’Reilly. It gives great insight into how a consumer’s behaviours and emotions affect marketing which I love learning more about.
Sarah / Project Estimator
Genre of Choice: Historical Fiction
The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite books because I love the era, the glamour, and the drama!
Arden / Graphic Designer
Genre of Choice: Fantasy / Mystery
The Harry Potter Series because it’s the first series I remember enjoying as a kid! It’s not just a book or a story. It’s a world created where it’s fun to imagine magic and mystery.
As you can tell, here at KEEN we’re fond of quite the variety of genres. What’s your go-to genre or book? Tell us in the comments or on our socials.
