Arden Burnett
Graphic Designer
The Basics:

What is your name/nicknames?
Sometimes my family calls me Ards…can’t get much shorter than that for a nickname. I’ve also acquired the nickname Taco from a ski trip with friends years ago but I have nooo idea why that stuck. Another group of friends call me Merms (short for mermaid) because I have long hair that has a mind of it’s own.

How would you describe your position?
I turn ideas into reality! I synthesize information into easy to understand and functional materials and I work with a team of creative geniuses to solve design problems.

What are your academic credentials?
I’m a University of Alberta alumni! I have a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication with an emphasis on Social Sciences. I’m also a member of the Graphic Designers of Canada and hold a GDC certification.

What do you do in your spare time?
I play a lot of sports. I’ve been playing soccer my whole life! It’s been a 20+ year commitment and I love it! I play with a fun rec team as well as a competitive women’s soccer team. In the winter I also play rec floor hockey and head to the mountains a couple times to go skiing/snowboarding. From time to time I dabble in other sport activities like: cross-country skiing, canoeing, and hiking. Aside from being active I love cooking and making new delicious meals!

Who or what inspires you and why?
Traveling to new places! I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to see different parts of the world and I really do believe that traveling is one of the best things you can do to expand your horizons…no pun intended.

The Random:

What is your favourite food?
Does wine count? I’m just keeping things real. I also like chocolate and steak….but not all at once.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an Archaeologist/Indiana Jones! But more specifically, an Egyptologist. I would spend ‘library time’ in elementary school looking at books about Egypt and mummies. I even studied Anthropology for 2 years during University before switching my interest to Design. I realized I liked reading about the history of of different cultures more than chemical analysis techniques and surveying methods.

Would you get a tattoo? If you already have a tattoo, what is it?
It would have to be something really meaningful not just a beautiful image. I think I would get my family crest or my family crest motto “Virescit Vulnere Virtus” which translates to “Courage flourishes at a wound”.

What do you think the world would be like if bacon didn’t exist?
I can’t even…

Would you buy a sweater covered in kittens? Would you wear it if someone gave it to you for free?
Yes. Wouldn’t you!?
